SUPER EGO - a web series you need to watch

Check out this hilarious new web series on My Damn Channel, Super Ego. I've embedded the trailer below and I think you'll enjoy it. I mean, who doesn't love a self-absorbed method therapist?

"No it's cool. I have a prescription."

Because who doesn't love a never-ending sax solo?

Thanks to my friend Jack for sharing this:

Never-ending sax solo. Seriously. What's weird is that it doesn't ever seem to reach the point of annoying where you will feel inclined to turn it off. Additionally, those hip thrusts are epic.

*True fact: I played the Alto Saxophone from 5th grade through 9th grade.

Speaking of Comic-Con...

I did not anticipate (A) that my attempt to trend #notatcomiccon on Twitter would take off or (B) I would be quoted for wondering whether or not I put on deodorant that morning.

Fuck Comic-Con - Next Year I'm going to Pacey-Con!

Joshua Jackson is a trooper. And also brilliant. And I love him. And is it weird that I actually miss the Dawson's Creek theme song?

Those 'White Collar' Boys Can Bust a Move!

I don't know what I like most about this video: Matt Bomer's impressive dance skills or the hilarious expression on the face of the kid dancing between Bomer and Tim DeKay, who clearly has no idea what White Collar is or who these two insanely good looking men are.

"I don't like sci-fi. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!"

Hey Nerds:

Enjoy Comic Con!

This & That

+A reminder that I am not at Comic Con. To celebrate (aka mourn) this I am live-tweeting all the inane things I am doing today. For example, right now it's fucking freezing in my office, which leads me to believe they keep our offices especially cold only to make it impossible to be comfortable and/or fall asleep. Maybe not. I don't really know.

+I rediscovered tumblr last night. As well as my old tumblr that I started posting to (after first deleting some hilariously old post from like two years ago). Not really sure if it's going to be of any interest to me/anyone, but I view that social media site as more of a platform for personal expression. Or those dumb "F Yeah [insert relative pop culture name/term here]" blogs. Right now, all I've posted are quotes I like and some photos I took. And like a song lyric or two. So yeah, it's essentially my diary ten years later.

+Seriously, it's fucking freezing in here!

The Best 80s Ski Movie

HOLY MONKEYBALLS YOU GUYS!!!!!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES EVER IS NOW STREAMING ON HULU:

SKI PATROL

I know what you're thinking - you're thinking this looks like another shitty 80s sports movie. You know what? You're right. It is shitty. But it's so shitastic it's FANTASTIC. And personally, it is my favorite of the bad ski movies (in comparison to Aspen Extreme and Ski School, at least).

WATCH IT AND REJOICE!

Tim Roth is a Pimp for Brostitutes

Tim Roth is really capitalizing on all the punching and roughing-up he does on Lie to Me.

This & That

+I saw Inception last night. You must see it. Then you must read my friend Adam's brilliantly written interpretation of the film. Then you must talk to me about it. Seriously.

+Another film you must see is The Kids Are All Right. God it's nice being able to recommend movies again - I feel like it's just been a whole lot of crappy franchise movies in theaters recently.

+Now streaming: Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele - beautiful and a must for any Radiohead fan.

+In other music news: if you're in LA this week, check out Jesse Woods at Spaceland tomorrow, Wednesday, July 21st. He's a Texas native building a pretty big following and is touring with another relatively well know Texas indie favourite called Sunset. The tour is also in support of Jesse's new EP "Moon Rocks." Check out Jesse here.

+In TV: Things have been somewhat quieter in the TV world right now, with it being summer and all. I just caught up on the show Parenthood, which I'd abandoned this past Spring after about three episodes. So glad I gave it another shot, and I recommend you do too - the entire first season is streaming at Hulu.

Trailer to Watch: 'The Social Network'

Have you guys seen the newest trailer for the Facebook inspired movie The Social Network? Check it out below:

First of all - that version of "Creep," originally by Radiohead, was the perfect music for this. I have a feeling this movie is going to be good, and not only because I'm one of the millions of social media obsessed people out there - but the story, the success, all that behind-the-scenes stuff the average person doesn't know makes for some good stuff.

Secondly, let's all remember the script was penned by Aaron Sorkin - and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

If there was a "like" button, I'd "like" the shit out of this.

Star Wars Subway aka Why Don't These Things Happen to Me?

Holy Shit.

I think it's safe to say that if I had been one of the lucky passengers on this subway car I would have done any or all of the following:

(A) Pissed my pants
(B) Cried
(C) Giggled maniacally
(D) Mouthed along with the words
(E) Shoved Princess Leia out of the way

Also worth noting - when I was little I used to think that Darth Vader told Leia she was part of a "Revel of Lions" (see: "You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor!).

The Hills are no longer alive!

Today marks the End of an Era. THANK GOD.

That’s right – The Hills, that reality show I love to hate; the epic tome that has brought me much success and equal frustration, finally comes to an end tonight. Good riddance.

Okay, okay - thank you MTV for creating this beast. I regretfully admit it’s my most-blogged about show. (See the tags for the endless entries). And now, hopefully, never again.

I'll complete the Sound of Music references with this fitting farewell:

Are you sad The Hills is vacating the airwaves? Personally, I think it's a long overdue end. Probably should've gone when Lauren left for greener pastures and when Speidi got really, really weird.

New Show to Check Out: TNT's 'Rizzoli & Isles'

I first heard about the new TNT show Rizzoli & Isles during the overwhelming pilot pick-up season. It didn't pique my interest much beyond the fact that Janet Tamaro, a former Bones scribe, was attached in some sort of producing capacity. Then the other day, one of my Twitter followers referred to the show as the the "bicurious Bones" which gave me a good chuckle.

Then lo and behold, yesterday while going through the pages of the most recent EW, I came upon a cute ad for the show:

Okay. I'm intrigued...

The premise of Rizzoli & Isles, similar to Bones' origins, is based on a crime drama novel series by Tess Gerritsen's. From TNT:

RIZZOLI & ISLES follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), complete opposites and good friends who solve crimes and bust some of Boston's most notorious criminals. Growing up at opposite ends of the economic spectrum, the two remain strikingly different from one another in many ways. Jane, the only female detective in Boston's homicide division, is a tough and gutsy cop who doesn't let her guard down (except with Maura), dodges her overprotective mother and is better at basketball than her brother. Maura, meanwhile, is usually more comfortable among the dead than the living. She is always impeccably dressed in designer duds with a steady, sometimes icy temperament. And she is working on curbing her tendency to diagnose the people she meets - including her first dates. Jane and Maura often find themselves working together as both use their brilliant minds and expertise to figure out the "who done it" as well as the "how done it" of Boston's most complex cases.

Despite their many differences, Jane and Maura are best friends, with a quirky and supportive relationship. As Tamaro explains, "That Jane and Maura are so different and yet so effective as a team makes them unusual. There's something rare about their relationship that I see in the world but not enough on television: two smart, strong, competent women who instinctively drop the protective shield when they're with each other."

RIZZOLI & ISLES also stars Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos) as Angela, Jane's demanding and intrusive mother; Lee Thompson Young (FlashForward) as Det. Barry Frost, Jane's somewhat green partner; Bruce McGill (Law Abiding Citizen) as Det. Vince Korsak, Jane's seasoned former partner; and Jordan Bridges (Dawson's Creek) as Jane's brother, Frankie, a patrol cop who hopes one day to become a detective.

Sounds interesting, right? Personally, I think it will be refreshing to see a female-female partnership, as opposed to the opposites attract male-female pairings we're so accustomed to on procedurals. I think Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander should make for an interesting duo.

Here's some behind-the-scenes fun to en
joy:

So what do you think? Will you check out Rizzoli & Isles? I for one, plan on giving it a shot. The show premieres this Monday, July 12 on TNT at 10/9 pm. For more, click here.

If Firefly had been on in the 80s...

...then it probably would have lasted more than one season. Oh and the credits would have looked something like this:

Pretty rad. Although I do love the original Firefly theme song. You know, I think this might be my favorite Joss Whedon show...

Damn You, Duchovny

Word just broke that "the man, the myth, the monotone" is going to be making a triumphant return to Comic Con this year. Hell yeah. (Oh - that was a reference to David Duchovny in case the subject title of this post didn't let you know that aka you are stupid).

Oh wait, I am not going to Comic Con. My third summer in LA where I will not be traveling with the masses on this holy quest.

Le sigh.

The thing is? It would be SO easy. I mean, I could probably even get interviews if I wanted, could probably tote around some HuffPo press credentials, use various contacts to crash some parties, but the thing is - at the end of the day, I am not going to go to Comic Con until I am going under legitimate pretenses. So, for work. Like, work, work. And I'm not talking about this here blog or the other freelance writing I do for spare change. I'm talking about the day when I am no longer an assistant and I get to go because a show I work on is at the convention, whether I am going in a marketing capacity, or as a creative exec (as the many people I work for are), or as a writer or producer (those last two are most likely in the far away future). Am I sad about this? Sure. But not really. I think my reasons for abstaining from making the trek are good ones. Hey, I need to maintain any remaining shred of "coolness" I can.

But then... but then... there was Duchovny. He might be the only celebrity of any medium I have ever geeked out over. Last summer when I was home my brother and I spent some time sorting through our old stuff. My X-Files collection was quite impressive. Here's a glimpse:

There may or may not be action figures hiding behind that mountain of magazines.

Alas - no Comic Con for me. Not this year. Unless Duchovny himself sends a personalized invite, I'll be spending that weekend in what will likely be a quiet LA.

"It's always fun to get away from camp. Even for an hour!"

I spent the 4th of July weekend in the lovely Napa Valley region, on a "girls and gays" trip to Sonoma for lots of wine tastings and Broadway sing-alongs. It was heavenly.

I hadn't left LA since April, and before that I guess it had been Christmas. As nice as it is to stay local on long weekends and relax, I forgot how incredibly refreshing it is to get out of town.

When we were in the cab on the way home from the airport yesterday I turned to my friends and remarked at how lovely it was to get away. DiTonto, of course, had the perfect response, in the form of a Wet Hot American Summer quote:

Please note - Waterville, Maine doesn't actually look like that.

the big time

OMG! MY BROTHER IS IN THIS VERIZON AD!

That's him walking on the walls.

Apparently you can catch this commercial before Toy Story 3. Has anyone seen it?

Yes, Please.

This pic and more goodness (hard to believe but there are even hotter photos of this man) can be found in this week's Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands now.

If you aren't watching White Collar, this should give you a clear sense of what exactly you are missing: a really, really attractive guy (and good TV too, but right now I'd like us all to focus on the pretty).
