So much TV, so little time...

The other night I watched one of the best pilots I'd ever seen which inspired me to find some more damn good TV to watch. So right then and there I started watching Breaking Bad. It's great. I am only two episodes in, but that is quite a show, and I've heard nothing but amazing reviews of its most recent season, so I am psyched to catch up. However, this has me thinking about all the other amazing TV shows I have yet to watch. Yes, even I, the girl who seems to watch craploads of TV, has many, many shows I have not watched but feel that I must. Some of them are current shows, some are older... but there just seem to be so many. In no particular order, here they are:

The Wire
Deadwood
Fringe (almost caught up - I have like 6 more episodes to go)
Party Down (only seen the pilot)
Mad Men
Damages
Carnivale
The Vampire Diaries
The Comeback
Angel (I've seen most of the first season, but that's it)
Breaking Bad (just begun...)

And that is just off the top of my head... Okay I need some sort of strategy here. Obviously I am close to being caught up with Fringe which means when the new season starts in the fall I can pick that up. As for the others, yes, I realize there is a range of quality (The Wire and The Vampire Diaries would be the obvious example) but then there's the issue of whether or not to watch shows from the past over current shows...

And HOLY CRAP I just realized I never finished Season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So add that to the list.

Okay, I know that those of you who aren't related to me or are a personal friend read this blog for my various TV ramblings - which means there's enough of you to help me figure out a game plan for watching these shows. Anything I should tackle first (taking into account I've got Fringe and Breaking Bad going right now)? Anything I should not even bother with? Any of those shows have a season I can skip? And can anyone magically summon up more time in the day?

Whoa nelly, you've got SOME WORK to do. ;)

I'm quite partial to Mad Men, Deadwood, Damages, and Party Down. In that order. You'll probably need to have a laugh at some point in this mad marathon of intensity so Party Down will come in handy, LOL. Meanwhile The Wire is critically agreed to be one of the top TV shows EVER MADE. (I haven't watched it yet, and I love Treme, so bad on me.)

While I am a fan of Vampire Diaries (and Dawson's Creek, and the Scream films), on a list like this it's hard for me to suggest you spend any time on it till you've dug much deeper into the other shows. OTOH, right now, if you're into vamps, there's definitely an argument that watching TVD is more important than catching up with Angel. Unless you enjoy the Joss writing style (and need some laughs).

Good luck!

Your list looks similar to mine...

Here's some suggestions/comments on shows:

Party Down - very funny and definitely worth checking out.

Breaking Bad - I'm about halfway through the first season right now and it is quite amazing...seriously...wow.

Deadwood - I started, but never finished for some reason...really liked it though.

Californication - Just finished Season 1...I am loving it so far.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Only caught a couple episodes, but hopefully will watch more now that I can Tivo a bunch from Comedy Central

The Wire - Heard great things about it and want to watch it...eventually...

Dollhouse - Watched the pilot and would like to find time to watch more...

Fringe - Haven't seen any, but I'm intrigued...

Mad Men - Watched part of the first season and liked it, but haven't finished...

I guess the list could go on and on...but I'll stop there (this is YOUR blog anyway...)

You mentioned that you watch some amazing pilots - Specifically, which shows are you referring to?

Thanks for reminding me how much TV I need to watch...

To ProgGrrl:

Good point re: Vampire Diaries - it's sort of a weird show to have on this list but was more of a "fun summer show to watch" and one of my roommates watches it... but I think I can through that down the list priority-wise.

To eshawcomedy: I totally forgot about Dollhouse, saw the first season but then I gave up after two episodes in Season 2. As far as pilots I am watching... well... I watch all the new pilots, or at least as many as I can get my hands on through work. Speaking of, I of course always watch the pilots my studio puts out, but I am less likely to talk publicly about those!

First, I can't imagine someone beginning season 7 of BTVS and not finishing it, so I would definetly start there.

And, of course, followed by Angel, which I myself have not seen entirely... although you can totally skip the last season. It should've been over along with BTVS.

I hear The Wire and Mad Men are amazing, so I would put that on the top of the list.

And personally I wouldn't bother watching Vampire Diaries, because, let's face it, enough with the vampires. Specially because BTVS and Angel are SO.MUCH.BETTER.

And please finish watching Fringe. I always go with the ones I'm almost over obsessively until I'm caught up.
