When you wish upon a star...

As you may have noticed, either from the day-before post, or the lack of posting, I spent all day last Friday with my roommate DiTonto and her mom, who had been in town visiting us for the week, at the magical place that is Disneyland.

Now, what I may have failed to mention is that this was really my first Disney experience. The one where I was pretty much a baby doesn’t count. It’s also worth mentioning I have never been to a Six Flags or a Busch Gardens, and my only amusement park experience is Funtown USA, aka Maine’s pathetic excuse for a theme park (for proof of this lackluster place, please enjoy their budget website). I have also not been on a rollercoaster since I was in England in eighth grade, and I have never been on a ride that goes upside down.

So what I am trying to prepare you for here, is that this trip to Disneyland, was, as Joe Biden would say, A BIG FUCKING DEAL.

I’m not going to give you a full minute-by-minute recap, but I am going to share a few thoughts, and some pictures…

First, up did you know you get those mouse ears embroidered with your name? YOUR NAME! And if it’s your first time at the park you get a first time pin, also with your name! And, because I love Michael Jackson (and crewneck sweatshirts), after seeing his aspiring Star Wars film Captain EO I got a totally rad Captain EO sweatshirt.

I almost started crying on two rides, coincidentally the ride that kicked off the day – Star Tours (when I saw C3PO, as well as the promise of visiting Hoth and Endor I freaked out), and then the ride that closed the day, the Finding Nemo submarine adventure (because I love that movie so much it hurts).

DiTonto got a picture of me hugging a giant stuffed Winnie the Pooh, as well as a candid where I was standing on top of a picnic bench in an attempt to look at a Disney princess. She and Mama D also claimed they needed one of those leash backpacks that three-year-olds get. Because you know what? I FELT LIKE A CHILD. I DID. AND IT WAS AWESOME. I mean, it was magical. It really was.

Finally, I went on my first rollercoaster in 13 years: California Screamin’. And it went upside down! I took a picture of the picture they take when you are mid-ride, and while DiTonto’s face is covered in shadow, you can see the absolute glee on my face.

Obviously, my favorite part of this picture is the chick sitting in front of me. She looks like she is either about to vomit or murder someone. I am glad she didn’t do either.

DISNEY! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Tomorrow I am going to Disneyland.

DISNEYLAND!!!!!!

I am so excited! I went to Disneyworld in Florida once when I was three years old but I don't remember anything besides singing "It's A Small World" to my brother over and over again afterwards. That's it though. I feel like there was a haunted house with ghosts I was scared of, too? No idea. I mean, really, my dad emailed me yesterday to say "I'm glad you'll have a Disney experience you can remember."

BUT I AM SO EXCITED. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. I KIND OF HAVE TO PEE. LIKE EXCITED PEE.

This? Right here? THIS IS ME:

Rap + Disney. Sure.

I totally forgot I had intentions of posting this last week when one of my friends sent it to me, but then it popped again today from another friend and I was reminded of how BRILLIANT this video is. Alice in Wonderland, meet Three Six Mafia:

Clip of the Day

So it appears there is a natural explanation for my mutual love of the Disney flicks from the 70s. Apparently Robin Hood and The Jungle Book were rather similar.

This is a really interesting video showing just how many of our favorite animated Disney classics borrowed from each other (worth watching to the end).

Some Wednesday Nostalgia

The Jungle Book is probably my favorite Disney movie off all time (right up there with Robin Hood, Alice & Wonderland, and The Sword in the Stone) but then came the cartoon Tailspin and I was always significantly confused why the animals from that beloved film were all friends and adventurers. Didn't stop me from watching the cartoon when I could.

Stamos vs. Stamos

Okay.

So remember that time (aka every time) when I beat John Stamos in a "Stamos vs. Stamos" competition, mostly by default, but also because I am biased toward myself winning in all irrationally stupid web-based competitions with famous TV actors?

Well, you can forget about me ever saying I was always a guaranteed win, folks, because today I have Earth-shattering proof that Stamos has just owned me. Dominated. Destroyed. He is the victor supreme.

Why?

Please see this photo:

Stamos: Epic Win.
1. He is posing with TINA FEY. This is a no-brainer.
2. He is at Disneyland.
3. He is also standing with Belle, Cinderella, and Snow White and while I’m slightly concerned he might be marginally racist (where are Jasmine and Ariel? What, do you have a thing against Persians and Mermaids, Stamos?), he is posing with some Goddamn DISNEY PRINCESSES.
4. He is wearing a fedora and dirty old-people Velcro shoes. And PULLING IT OFF. SOMEHOW. PROBABLY BECAUSE HE IS JOHN STAMOS.
5. He is referred to as a Disneyphile.

Stamos: Epic fail.
1. I have no pictures with Tina Fey (besides the one I have tucked into my mirror with a word bubble that says “work on some improv Stamos and someday you might have a shot. Like me. Also: try glasses.” That’s a lie. I have no such picture. Just in my head. And the drawer in my nightstand).
2. I have never been to Disneyland. Only Disneyworld. And naturally, Florida = Fail.
3. The closest I have ever come to standing with a princess is when I took that ridiculous Facebook quiz "Which Disney Princess are you?" and somehow landed with Mulan. Fucking Mulan.
4. I do not own a fedora nor do I have any shoes with velcro, nor could I successfully pull off this look.
5. I am not a Disneyphile. The only “phile” I might be is an X-Phile. (Also a Francophile—these two “-philes” were actually united in my secret 5th grade AOL screenname XFille—literal translation is X-Girl, which unbeknownst to me at the time did not indicate I was a nerdy fan of The X-Files but rather portrayed me as a French porn star, and resulted in a lot of confusing spam email). The shame!

I’ll get you next time Stamos.
MARK MY WORDS.

Things That Kill Fairies

So the UTA list (which I believe I have referenced before as being an excellent source for job-finding in Hollywood, and if I haven't... well that's what it is), has now gone online. In blog form. And THANK GOD or else we wouldn't all get to see postings like this one:

9/24/2008
Assistant - Female Celebrity/Mogul

Successful female celebrity/entrepreneur seeks trustworthy assistant. She is very high-profile so you must always be presentably and stylishly dressed, as you will be seen in paparazzi shots behind/next to her. Have had problems with assistants with bad skin in past. Must be perfectly moisturized, small unclogged pores, no blackheads, pockmarks, Café au lait spots, eczema, rosacea. Skin tone must complement celebrity in all lighting conditions. Please email resume, recent photograph and 3 references who can attest to the flawless condition of your skin (Think dermatologist, waxer, etc.). 9/24
Labels: assistant, celebrity, dermatologist, mogul, skin

Somewhere, a fairy just died. (Clap your hands if you believe! I BELIEVE IN YOU TINKERBELL). This makes my head hurt. Welcome to Hollywood, where your dream of touting perfect skin as an ASSISTANT can finally come true.

P.S. If you didn't get that Peter Pan reference you should be ashamed of yourself.

UPDATE: Methinks this blog is a fake. Either that or commentary from an assistant on the actual UTA list... any opinions?

UPDATE #2: Definitely a fake. If I actually took the time to fully read things that I find I would have noticed immediately at the top of the blog it says "alternate version" to the actual list. How clever. Sadly, these posts are probably more realistic than their official sugarcoated counterparts.

Christmas List

I realize it isn't even October yet and therefore the only holiday currently entertaining people's thoughts (if any) is Halloween (which PS I still have to spell out musically using that goddamn song we learned in 4th grade, "H-A Double L-O, W Double-E-N-spells Halloween) however with my dad's visit this weeken, talk of Christmas came up. Early, yes, I know, but unavoidable when you are a struggling assistant and can only really look forward to big ticket items on major holidays and therefore discuss such wants when a parent is in town. Some items likely to show up on my list this year: a bike, pilates classes, gas money. I'd like to add this:

Seriously. I'd be the coolest kid at school. By school I mean work. Can't you just imagine that sweet R2D2 watch on my arm? All the other kids would be SO jealous.

On another note, family friends in Maine continue to give me a hard time for the period of my life (translation: since birth) when I would create highly itemized and specific Christmas lists for my mother (I only wanted to make her shopping experience easy, okay?). I had categories, sub-categories, preferred stores, brands, sizes, colors--you name it. I even had one page I called "miscellaneous" where each year similar things would show up:

Karaoke machine
Trip to Euro Disney
Black Ford Explorer
Trampoline

(You know the year they closed Euro Disney for banktrupcy issues or something happend to be the year we were going to France and I actually wrote a letter to the head of Euro Disney to please keep it open. For me. I had some seriously grand delusions as a child.)

While my love for the SUV, Disney and the karaoke machine rotated in and out with other large items (other cars, technology, small countries), I asked for a trampoline EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Even though every other family in my town, and just about all of my close friends, had them and I could always use one if so-desired, I wanted nothing more than a trampoline to call my own. I never got one, and I have to say, despite the obvious safety issues and the fact that now a trampoline would make little to no sense, a part of me still wants one.

So let's throw that on the list too.
