So I did my first ever sort of stand-up type thing EVER tonight (it wasn't stand up because I was reading something I already wrote) and it went really well.
So well in fact, that after the show, when I was walking out the door (because, like the sometimes socially-awkward gal I am, I like to bolt immediately after drawing attention to myself) some guy at the bar stopped me as I was walking out and said:
"You were the best."
"What?" I asked, because I was certain I had not heard correctly. There were like 8 other people doing stuff and mine was the shortest and the most different because it wasn't really on theme with the rest of the night and I was sweating a lot.
"Yours was the best."
"Thank you so much!" I said sweetly and then I ran right out of the bar.
My morning started out bad because I slept through my alarm and was a half hour late to work but then the day got better because I finished my pilot (that's 35 pages I WROTE you guys, I DID THAT!) and then right after I hit print and looked at my words I jetted off to this little comedy club and did my thing and some guy at the bar told me I was the best.
I feel... relieved (PEOPLE ACTUALLY LAUGHED! BECAUSE OF MY JOKES! ME!), but I also have a headache (probably from my glasses but I've decided I am going to wear glasses whenever I do these sorts of things because it weirdly helps me get into "character" which is a super silly thing for me to say if the character is just myself but I swear that it helped, you guys, I swear) and I also kind of feel like I want to cry because there is nothing more I want right now then to call my mom and tell her about my amazing day that started so terribly and ended so well and I can't call her and well, that just SUCKS SO HARD (I miss you Mom and I love you forever and I know you're watching over me I do, but sometimes, God, I just want to be able to pick up the phone and call you) but also I just feel like... I don't know what I feel like... like, maybe like I can do this. Like maybe if I can stay on this momentum and keep doing stuff and just keep on trying things I'll figure it out. I don't even know what "it" is. Maybe it's me or my life or my career goals or comedy or writing or just everything but I feel like I'm getting closer.
But whatever, the bigger deal here is that I did a comedy show and it went really well. And it's a good thing too because I've got another one on Saturday! OH SHIT! After the show I came home to an empty house which is rare when you have three other roommates and I thought that I should write this down, how I am feeling and I thought I would do it on Tumblr because that really is where I seem to be doing most of my blogging these days but then I thought, no, this is Jaw Wired Shut material. This is me. And I feel like there are only 2 people still reading this blog (are you out there? SHOW YOURSELVES!) but if there are it's the same people who've been reading me since I started this thing when I moved to LA in 2007 and look how far I've come!
And did you hear? I was the best, you guys! THE BEST!

this is probably what I look like when I dance
I value honesty and I gotta be honest with myself - I like to think I am a good dancer but if I were probably watching myself dance, I imagine I'd look like something of a cross between Elaine on Seinfeld, and this girl:

The Best 80s Ski Movie
HOLY MONKEYBALLS YOU GUYS!!!!!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES EVER IS NOW STREAMING ON HULU:
SKI PATROL
I know what you're thinking - you're thinking this looks like another shitty 80s sports movie. You know what? You're right. It is shitty. But it's so shitastic it's FANTASTIC. And personally, it is my favorite of the bad ski movies (in comparison to Aspen Extreme and Ski School, at least).
WATCH IT AND REJOICE!

In need of a self-esteem boost? How about a daily affirmation!
This girl is doing something everyone should do at least once a week. Things are pretty awesome, so go ahead and say it. And dance about it too!

The Panty Police
Saturday night I had a run-in with the cops. Now, before you go ahead and jump to any conclusions, it’s worth mentioning that in the time I have lived in Santa Monica I’ve had more run-ins with police officers than I have my entire life prior to moving here. And they’ve always been for the same reason: noise. Yep. People in Santa Monica seem to hate people who like to do things like, oh, I don't know... enjoy life and have fun with their friends... so, as you can imagine, we’ve had cops show up to our apartments for a variety of noise-related reasons. My favorite time was when they came over because we were watching Planet Earth too loud… at least, that was until this most recent run-in...
After a fun night out Saturday, two of my roommates and I ended the night back at our apartment. Sure we were pretty drunk – I’m not going to pretend that wasn’t the case… Actually, let’s get down to it: we were hammered.
Somehow, in the early hours of the morning (I think we thought it was around 2am but it turns out it was closer to 4am) we all ended up in DiTonto’s bedroom having a late night dance party (LNDP for the uninitiated. Obv.) We often joke that our apartment is “pants optional” and this was one of those nights – because both Becca and Ash were in their underwear and t-shirts, although I for some reason was still fully dressed, shoes and all (I have no idea why but I sometimes have a tendency to not take my shoes off until I go to bed).
Now when I say LNDP, I don’t mean like a singalong to music from Glee. We were rocking out to Gorillaz – yes, still riding that Coachella high – and when I say rocking out I mean HARD CORE. Like dancing our faces off. And each one of us totally in our own world in a different corner of DiTonto’s room, with DiTonto holding court jumping and dancing on top of her bed.
Anyway, the song “Rhinestone Eyes” is blaring and we are just all so into it and next thing I know there are two policemen standing in the doorway of DiTonto’s bedroom – which I might add, is fairly deep into our large apartment.
So essentially, two cops who were probably expecting to walk into some apartment and find a massive rager of a party just came across three girls dancing, two of them in their underwear, having a great time. It’s the start to a bad porno.
(It’s also worth mentioning there are empty beer cans everywhere. Among other things.)
These cops were just standing sort of in stunned shock looking at us, and while Becca and DiTonto immediately drop to the floor covering their mouths I just kept repeating “Oh my God I am so embarrassed.”
We then get the following speech: “First of all, your door is wide open so you should probably remember to lock that from now on. And secondly, your music is so loud you didn’t even hear us until we came all the way to the bedroom.” And maybe they said something after that, but all I remember is that the second they walked out of the bedroom door the three of us burst into uncontrollable fits of giggles. We’re talking rolling on the floor, holding our bellies and laughing so hard it hurt giggles.
I am guessing Sunday morning some fellow cops got a good story over donuts.

"Everything you need to know is in my dancing."
Some thoughts:
1) So glad Moose is back (if you don't know to whom I am referring, you are obviously not a Step Up fan and should go educate yourself immediately).
2) I want to live in a house with dancers. Live together, dance together, battle together? Yes. YES.
3) I will be seeing this opening night. And many more times after.
4) ONE MOVE CAN SET A WHOLE GENERATION FREE. Words to live by.
5) 3D.
That is all.

When you wish upon a star...
As you may have noticed, either from the day-before post, or the lack of posting, I spent all day last Friday with my roommate DiTonto and her mom, who had been in town visiting us for the week, at the magical place that is Disneyland.
Now, what I may have failed to mention is that this was really my first Disney experience. The one where I was pretty much a baby doesn’t count. It’s also worth mentioning I have never been to a Six Flags or a Busch Gardens, and my only amusement park experience is Funtown USA, aka Maine’s pathetic excuse for a theme park (for proof of this lackluster place, please enjoy their budget website). I have also not been on a rollercoaster since I was in England in eighth grade, and I have never been on a ride that goes upside down.
So what I am trying to prepare you for here, is that this trip to Disneyland, was, as Joe Biden would say, A BIG FUCKING DEAL.
I’m not going to give you a full minute-by-minute recap, but I am going to share a few thoughts, and some pictures…
First, up did you know you get those mouse ears embroidered with your name? YOUR NAME! And if it’s your first time at the park you get a first time pin, also with your name! And, because I love Michael Jackson (and crewneck sweatshirts), after seeing his aspiring Star Wars film Captain EO I got a totally rad Captain EO sweatshirt.

I almost started crying on two rides, coincidentally the ride that kicked off the day – Star Tours (when I saw C3PO, as well as the promise of visiting Hoth and Endor I freaked out), and then the ride that closed the day, the Finding Nemo submarine adventure (because I love that movie so much it hurts).

DiTonto got a picture of me hugging a giant stuffed Winnie the Pooh, as well as a candid where I was standing on top of a picnic bench in an attempt to look at a Disney princess. She and Mama D also claimed they needed one of those leash backpacks that three-year-olds get. Because you know what? I FELT LIKE A CHILD. I DID. AND IT WAS AWESOME. I mean, it was magical. It really was.
Finally, I went on my first rollercoaster in 13 years: California Screamin’. And it went upside down! I took a picture of the picture they take when you are mid-ride, and while DiTonto’s face is covered in shadow, you can see the absolute glee on my face.

Obviously, my favorite part of this picture is the chick sitting in front of me. She looks like she is either about to vomit or murder someone. I am glad she didn’t do either.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
No, it’s not Christmas. It’s the long-awaited return of FALL TV. And for those of who work in TV or simply just love TV, it’s just such a magical time of year. So let me give you a weekly break-down of my TV watching habits,
Let’s kick off with MONDAY nights, because, well, today’s Monday. Now, I have a true confession to make. I stopped watching Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm) about halfway through the season last year. I know, it’s simply terrible. What sort of pop culture junkie am I if I’m not up to date on the latest fight between Chuck and Blair or the bizarrely unimportant storylines following Vanessa or Nate? Well, it doesn’t take much to stay on top of this show, whether or not you actually watch, so even though I missed half of Season 2 I think I know what’s happening. They’re all dating each other and then hating each other and everyone is going to NYU and then there’s an evil twin and then the realize the island isn’t REALLY an island. See, at this point, I haven’t decided whether or not I will be watching Gossip Girl this season, which probably means I don’t care enough and will be watching a better show (I’m thinking of picking up The Wire or Big Love) instead on Monday nights.
That is, if I am not watching FOOTBALL! Folks I love the fall and I love watching football and those two just go hand in hand with beer and America and freedom and goodness. Saturday I think I watched about 9 hours of college football (my league of choice) and while I don’t love the NFL as much, at least there’s always Monday Night Football to sink your teeth into.
Now Tuesday nights are looking good. The remake of the classic 80s sci-fi thriller V (ABC, 8pm) starts up around mid-November, but even better is that So You Think You Can Dance (FOX, 8pm) is on for a solid two hours—and that makes for some great TV programming on one night. Some aliens and some dancing. Maybe some dancing aliens, I don’t know, but that would be great.
Wednesday night brings the results show for SYTYCD (FOX, 8pm) which I don’t really watch, only the dancing and actual results—in sum, about 5 minutes of quality programming until you know who gets the boot. After SYTYCD is Glee (FOX, 9pm) which I’ve already talked about being obsessed with. MUST SEE. Oh and I recently watched the pilot for Modern Family (ABC, 9pm) and while I definitely enjoyed it, there’s only so much time in the day I can devote to watching TV, and yes, I do have a limit.

The best night for television watching is, without question, Thursday night. Obviously, Thursday nights are traditionally great nights for TV, but the schedule is just overwhelmingly fantastic this year. Bones (FOX, 8pm) premieres this week, and there’s no need for me to reiterate my severe obsession with that show… but I will anyway. I LOVE BONES. It’s my 21st century X-Files with less paranoia and more comic relief. After Bones comes Fringe (FOX, 9pm), which I spent some time over the weekend getting caught up on, and this show is lot like the X-Files, but I’m nowhere near the same level as obsessed, however I am psyched to see how Season 2 plays out. The Office and 30 Rock (NBC, 9pm and 9:30pm—although SNL: Weekend Update will be on until 30 Rock premieres, complete with Amy Poehler!) are on Thursdays again, classic shows right there. I also plan to watch the new show Community (NBC, 8pm) as well as the potential Lost-replacement Flash Forward (ABC, 8pm) which will end up as a DVR special while I will be devoting real time watching of that time slot to Bones. Thursdays are overwhelming. I don’t even think I will be watching Vampire Diaries (CW, 8pm). Seriously. I have enough vampires and teen angst in my life as it is. Wait. That’s weird.

Friday Night Lights (DirecTV, 9pm). That’s all that needs to be said for Friday night (what with BSG off the air) and I absolutely cannot wait for Season 4 to begin on October 28th. I might watch Dollhouse (FOX, 9pm) Fridays as well, or at least record it and check it out later, but really FNL is the big gun on this night of the week.
Saturdays… if any TV is watched it will be college ball then SNL late night when I am drunk or something.
And hurrah for the return of Californication (Showtime, 10pm) and Family Guy (FOX, 9pm), two of my favorite Sunday night shows.

Well.
Now that you know what exactly I’ll be watching every day of the week, I highly suggest watching along, and then we can have all sorts of fascinating debates. But I must warn you: there’s a good chance that in about a month, the actual shows I watch on time will drop to approximately 4. There’s simply no way I can keep up with this many and balance work, working out, and yes, a social life. Unless I can train myself to get fewer hours of sleep each night, which trust me, I’ve tried. I’ve gotten it down to being comfortable at 8 hours a night, which may be normal for most people but is ROUGH for me. But, regardless of what I do end up watching seriously, I just love fall TV. There's just something in the air...

OMG! Water Cooler chat!
Wow. For the first time ever I am in one of those office workplace scenarios where people have morning water cooler chat and let me tell you: it is AWESOME. Especially when you work in TV and the conversation is about last night's television shows, specifically the amazing Glee. I did an inner happy dance this morning after chatting with two people in business affairs about the show. Is that weird? Sure. Hey it's better than the last place I worked, where a lot of people acted too cool to chat about TV shows and I would make fun of people in the elevators with excessively overused small talk and no one ever caught on. Such is office life...
But anyway, yes Glee is amazing, mostly because the 12-year-old version of myself that only listened to musical soundtracks adores this show. So don't act shocked when I tell you that immediately after watching I downloaded last night's episode highlight: "Take a Bow" sung by the incredibly talented newcomer Lea Michele. Girl's got pipes. Reminds me of a younger Idina Menzel... and now I've revealed to you that other nerdy side of me, yes the part that really does love musical theater and contemporary performers.
Moving on... anyway... no idea what my point is here, but yes, watch Glee. Then talk about it with your co-workers. It's all the rage round the water coolers these days.

Some Thoughts in my Mind Right Now That You Probably Don't Care About
If you are looking at this list thinking HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLL NO I am not reading that much of her mindless rambling, just skip to NUMBER SIX.
Thx,
Mngmnt.
(1) I seem to attract angry seagulls. Last weekend, there I was, just minding my own business at the beach, enjoying my crime thriller novel au moment, when BAM! a seagull craps on my leg. Although I've been told it's good luck (can anyone verify this?). And this is a mere three weeks after that other seagull divebombed for my sandwich. So I'd like to know: WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE CALIFORNIA SEAGULLS?
(2) In other news, I have three days left at my current job (including today). First of all, who knew that two weeks notice flies by so quickly? It's exciting but also very surreal. And sad... but also great... so it's just a ROLLER COASTER of emotions up in here.
(3) You know I am sad my job will no longer be as a trend forecaster. Because then I will lose credibility when telling random people things like "MIMOSA IS THE NEW HOT COLOR" or "YES IT IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE TO PAINT YOUR NAILS MULTIPLE SHADES OF NEON COLORS."
(4) Which brings me to my next point... at the new job how long do I have to wait before I can bust out the neon clothing? Today I am wearing pants so neon they may as well be nuclear (seriously, they are the color of a yellow highlighter) and a bright purple tye-dye t-shirt. Sure it's my form of silent rebellion, of sticking it to the MAN, of saying "SUCK IT SUITS" but in all honesty, while I do love bright colors I've definitely exaggerated my love and frequency when placed in such a corporate environment. Good news is that the new gig appears to be much less corporate. So yeah maybe less neon?
(5) And better news? I am going to be in MAINE soon. I FUCKING LOVE MAINE. In case you didn't know that. You probably did. I love it so much. I also love the ocean. The ocean in Maine feels infinitely crisper and cleaner than here in LA. Probably because it's significantly less polluted. I want to live in the ocean. (OK contribute that last quote to Becca).
(6) And MOST IMPORTANTLY: I am now following John Stamos on Twitter. Yes, the REAL John Stamos (not my dad), and I need to begin tweeting at him, to facilitate the mind blowing experience of a real life Stamos vs. Stamos but I NEED YOUR HELP. I need to use STRATEGERY to go about this. Because imagine what would happen to the universe if we were to meet or EVEN DUEL over Twitter (okay, we wouldn't duel, per se, but the universe would probably explode). Personally, I think Uncle Jesse and I could be the best of friends but I WANT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Help me make this happen! SERIOUSLY! Leave comments, email suggestions... oooh what if all 30 of you regular readers began a Twitter campaign for STAMOS TO MEET STAMOS. HOLY SHIT. Let's do it! In the words of P. Diddy "LET'S GO PEOPLE!"
Thx,
Mngmnt.

Yellow is the color du jour
Today I am wearing a bright yellow dress. While this doesn't really stray from my regular bright colored attire, I've quickly discovered that dressing in a cheery hue on a Monday can make your whole day better, almost immediately. Sure it helps that bright yellow accentuates my tan, but the days that I actually put some effort into what I am wearing remind me that getting your shit together can impact a lot. As in, I feel like I am putting out good vibes into the universe or something. Maybe not... maybe I'm just feeling all loopy and day-dreamy because I got too much sun this weekend, or because I've been listening to a lot of great new music (check out the new jam I embedded in the "Right Now" box to the right), or because I saw a really great movie last night (everyone should go check out 500 Days of Summer, it rocks). Or maybe it's just that things are holding promise right now. Or maybe it's because my dad and stepmom are back in the country after a week in South America--and even though they are still three thousand miles away, it's comforting to know they're a little bit closer.
Also, we might be getting a dog. I'm sure you're thinking "yeah, just what Stamos and her crazy roommates need, a dog to take care of." But we are going about it the responsible way, trying to be smart about it...
That's all for now. More later.

Keeper of the Kohn
I just wanted to alert EVERYONE to the fact that the amazing and inspirational film Keeper of the Kohn is available to view on Hulu. I watched it again last night and was reminded of what a truly special movie this is. (I've embedded the entire thing below, so you don't even need to go to Hulu--just watch it here!)
This film will make you laugh and cry and everything in between. I obviously have a personal attachment to the story as it's set at my alma mater, Middlebury College. Some of my close friends were on the lacrosse teams, and being an avid fan I even got to know Peter Kohn on a few occasions--a truly remarkable person. I don't care who you are, whether or not you care about college lacrosse or sports in general or anything like that. If you care about people and compelling stories, this is a must-see.

I AM BURSTING AT THE SEAMS WITH JOY!
I am filled with joy and EXUBERANCE today, my dear readers. Why, oh why? LET ME TELL YOU IN A NIFTY LIST FORMAT. GOLLY GEE I LOVE MAKING LISTS!
1) I love World Music. I do. I want to shout it on a mountain top. I feel like since Coachella my deep love for this genre of jams has been reignited and not only have I been discovering some great LA venues to catch new acts (like Afro Funk night at ZANZIBAR), but I have been discovering new HOT BEATS online.
2) I am wearing A NEON ORANGE SHIRT TODAY WITH PAINT SPLATTERS OF OTHER NEON COLORS ON IT. I AM PUSHING THE CASUAL FRIDAY DRESS CODE. I like to LIVE ON THE EDGE.
3) Tonight I am going to see EARTH. Finally! At long last... if you go back and look at my post from Earth Day 2008 when I first talk about my excitement for the film you may recall my claim that I was going to see it on Earth Day 2009. Well. I didn't. BUT I AM GOING TO SEE IT TONIGHT.
4) Tomorrow is Annie's birthday and her birthday party (conveniently at the same dive bar where DiTonto and I had our party) and it is destined to be an epic evening. WHY? Besides celebrating the birth of this fabulous lady, the theme is CROQUET (because she loves Alice in Wonderland) and we have leftover GLOWSTICKS from Coachella. YES, I SAID GLOWSTICKS. I TOO ENJOY A GOOD GLOWSTICK EVERY NOW AND THEN.
5) When KO was in town she introduced me to the phenomenon that is FLEA MARKET MONTGOMERY. It is HEAVEN.
Living rooms. Bedrooms. Dinettes. OH YEAH!

Now that's what a trailer is supposed to look like...
One of the most magical books of my childhood come to life:
It's a great trailer and looks like the movie will be fresh adaptation. Seriously, something about this film tugs on my heart strings, much like the book once did. I can't wait!

Send this to your grandmother
Oh my God. Get some kleenex. Send this to your grandmother. Hug the smelly kid who sits in the cubicle next to yours.
If they can be friends, ANYONE CAN.
If they can be friends, ANYONE CAN.
