I just prematurely posted this post. I am in a complete and utter daze right now. I don't even know if I am spelling correctly or making sense... I think it's a combination of move-recovery, being forced to data check pages and pages of market research surveys all day, and just staring at a computer screen in general.
I also am 100% sure I am addicted to the internet--further proved by the fact that once we got internet up and running at our new place, depsite being in bed at 10pm I wasn't lights-off in bed until around 1am. And what was I doing? Who knows... wasting time on the internet... spending most of it looking at mock-ups of rooms on Ikea and Pottery Barn, getting excited about my new headboard. Which led to the follow question: if I am excited by a headboard does this mean I am adult? Going to go with no... back to the number crunching...

Daylight Stealings
As great as it is leaving work in daylight hours, daylight savings always messes up my sense of time. Yesterday felt all out of whack, especially when I woke up with a splitting headache, and thought I had hours until I had to report for tennis, when it was much less than I thought. I was able to pull it together for the lesson (during which Adam and I laughed that our identical outfits were, actually, unplanned). NPR this morning did a hilarious piece about people needing to be more AWARE on their commute. Why? Well, folks, it's darker in the morning and BEWARE OF ENTHUSIASTIC JOGGERS AT NIGHT! Gee thanks for the heads up!
While I would like to complain about how I could use that hour of sleep back--it's March and summer is just around the corner in LA. I can't wait.

Chicken: It's What's For Dinner
There's nothing quite so satisfying as one of those just-cooked rotisserie chickens from your local grocery store. Seriously. I love that shit. Eat some of it for dinner and then you've got plenty of leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. If there's anything I like more than a cheap meal it's leftovers. Okay sure, that fine herb-flavored bird will run you anywhere from 7 to 13 clams, but it's definitely worth it. And you can tell yourself you're being healthy if you just don't eat a lot of the skin or dark meat. Mmmm. Chicken.
It feels like 11:30 pm. It's just before 9 pm. I'm going to bed.

Morning Conversations (about nightmares mostly)
9:29 AM
me: i just remembered i had a TERRIFYING nightmare last night
Ashleigh: hahah
me: there was an earthquake and we were in someone elses apartment and the building collapsed and then burned to the ground but we escaped but then i think we were running from looters (maybe vampires?) in the street
Ashleigh: we fought in my dream
like for days
like screaming
me: REALLY?
Ashleigh: i think you punched me
me: oh no!
9:30 AM
Ashleigh: it was terrible
i was really hjappy when i woke up
me: that IS terrible!
ME TOO!
Ashleigh: i think it's cause i borrorwed your shantaram without asking and in the dream you said i should have put a book cover on it so it didn't get ruined
me: haha i would say something like that
Ashleigh: and then i yelled about my scarf with your perfume but it turned into us just going at it about how we drive and talk
it was horrible
i wanted to hug you when i woke up
9:31 AM
me: awwww virtual hug?

The Mystery of the Sleepless Nights
The past few nights I have had some serious difficulty falling asleep. That happens sometimes with me, especially when I am not exercising on a regular schedule everyday (which of late, I haven't been), but this time around it's been... different.
But then, last night, I figured out why.
Ever since I was little, in fact, I think since I was a newborn, I've slept with my stuffed polar bear Snowy and my special blanket. Yes, I realize that I am way past the age where it is appropriate to sleep with such things, but bear with me for a second. Snowy, I intend to keep until that far off day when he disintegrates. Honestly. I usually sleep with him tucked under my arm, which has resulted in his shape resembling less of a polar bear and more of a flattened seal. At somepoint in high school or college some friends started calling him Square Bear. The blanket is silk, or it once was--now it's very thin and bear, and tattered, although it still feels silky. The thing is, the blanket I wrap around my head when I sleep.
I realize this sounds ridiculous, but again bear with me.
When I was little I used to have terrible nightmares--I started wearing the special blanket around my head because I would use it to cover my ears. Overtime I became essentially addicted to this--having my ears covered while I sleep, and by a silky feeling fabric (one reason I've always loved camping and sleeping in sleeping bags, because the sensation is quite similar). Because of the whole wrapping the blanket around my head thing (some friends would call it my turban), when I actually do sleep (you know for some reason I feel like I have blogged about this before but I have terrible memory retention so who knows) I have the blanket wrapped around my head and the covers up to my chin. There's really just an opening for the lower half of my face.
When I was in New York over the holidays, just before flying back to LA, I decided that as I was turning 25 I would no longer sleep with the blanket. Snowy would never go, but it was probably time for the blanket to get tucked away somewhere. I am a big girl, after all. I debated leaving it in New York, but ultimately brought it back to LA with me--a mistake though, because I didn't let go of it right away (although I told my family I did. Oops).
Last Thursday I had sort of interesting day--I was home sick but also got a bit of good news that closed a chapter of my life (in a sense), and I decided that was IT--the day I was going to set aside my Special Blanket.
Because I was extra tired, I had no trouble sleeping that night, or the next, or the rest of the weekend. Until Sunday night--when it was nearly impossible. And then last night, after being in bed for two hours and still not succumbing to my exhaustion I realized the problem was that I couldn't fall asleep without my ears being covered. I attempted to put one of the pillows over my left ear while I slept on my right side, but this just didn't work.
Finally, I gave in and accepted my fate. I am likely to sleep with that blanket until it falls apart (or until I have boyfriend/husband who burns it or something) and a day will come when I will have to put it away. But today is not that day. At 1 am this morning, I ran into my closet, dug through my bags and found my blanket. I wrapped it around my head, and fell asleep almost instantly.
I feel much better now.

Of Dreaming & Flying & Lateness
I was having the most glorious dream this morning. I was at Disneyland, or a dream version of Disneyland (I’ve never been) which was a strange, hallucinogenic like setting of very large and impressive old timey rides on beautiful hillside, near a castle by the sea. (Disclaimer, no drugs were involved with the making of this post). I don’t remember being with any friends or acquaintances in my actual life, but I definitely was with other people—enjoying the rides... the magic of it all... I was on one ride in particular that was sort of a cross between a chairlift and some sort of log chute ride and remember that it shot me into the air and the next thing I knew I was flying and it was MARVELOUS. The colors! The sounds! The feeling of the cool breeze as I easily passed through the air... and then next up was another ride... it was roller skating for wheat field (again, no drugs involved) and next thing I knew I could push off from my roller skates and I was up, up, up, and AWAY! Flying above the field, soaring, dipping, waving to my friends who were below. It was the most exhilarating feeling, truly magical. I didn’t want it to end!
Apparently I REALLY didn’t want it to end, because at a certain point I definitely had a weird moment of my dream state meeting my conscious mind, and I was essentially telling myself: “Keep sleeping! This is AWESOME! Your alarm will wake you up!”
Well as my sleep self and awake self continued to have this inner dialogue, I began to rouse and figured, sure why not wake up before my 7 am alarm today anyway. I slowly opened my eyes, feeling truly fantastic and looked over to see how early it was (figuring that after waking up around 6 am every day I probably was so accustomed to that time it must have been around then) only to see the menacing red of my alarm clock’s numbers staring back at me:
9:22 am
SHITFUCKER! SHITTER! MONKEY! I exclaimed, and I catapulted myself from my bed to my computer and emailed my boss that I would be late. Fortunately, she replied almost instantly, joking that she was wondering if I was late because I was spending a lot of time planning my outfit (to make up for the hilarity of yesterday’s). In about 20 minutes I pulled myself together (with a great outift I might add), and I even got my crazy hair semi-tame—which let me tell you, is a REAL feat, because I wake up with a serious rat’s nest every morning. Sure I rolled into work a solid hour later that I am supposed to, but I was feeling great—very well-rested.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I went to bed at 10:30 pm last night... so I got roughly eleven hours of sleep. Yes, eleven.
Only downside to all of this is that I’ve felt off all day, like really all over the place and scatterbrained, as though I didn’t know which was up and which was down... similar to that incredible flying dream...

Slump Day
Ugh. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Of course what that means is I took my allergy medicine too close to my bedtime last night and woke up in a groggy haze of confusion. I attempted to tell my trainer this morning that my left was my right. He didn't buy it. He's a good trainer (PS it's a new one because that last dude was a jackass and this guy is a former football player who also loves Twilight and other YA books. I KNOW!)
I wish I could be like a bear and hibernate for the winter. That would be kind of awesome.
It feels like a slow news week, doesn't it? I mean, I don't know that I have as much to write about... maybe it's because my life is pretty boring when I do essentially the same boring things every day. That is why someone needs to pay me to quit my job and to write amusing anecdotes all the time. That's right, someone else needs to pay me to quit my job. It's great logic, don't you think?

When Narcolepsy is a Good Thing
Last night, I was sound in bed and fast sleep pretty early. Very early. We are talking 7 pm early. And I am not exaggerating one little bit. For REAL.
I think all these nights of 6 hour sleep and ridiculously early wake up times for pre-work exercise has finally done me in. While I had grand intentions of having a fascinating Thursday evening (aka boozing) a few glasses of wine around 6 pm ruined me. The wine + a week of little sleep cancelled all previous intended activities and I went straight home and straight to bed.
I woke up once in the middle of the night, around 2 am, which would have signaled about the normal amount of sleep I get each night. But then I was out cold again, and didn’t wake up until I had to be up around 7 this morning. It was the most marvelous feeling. I mean, I feel fantastic right now. And I look fantastic. You know how they say if you get more sleep you are more likely to lose weight? Well it’s true, I lost a good 30 lbs last night.
Okay that last part was a lie, but seriously. I highly recommend 12 hours of sleep to EVERYONE.

Narcolepsy strikes again!
I fell asleep several times driving to work this morning. If you are thinking, "wow that sounds highly dangerous" you are right, it is. I live on the wild side. But I can't really help it. I just was so incredibly sleepy this morning. Well, maybe I could help it, if I went to bed earlier than my usual 11:30 pm bedtime, or if I didn't force myself to work out so G-D early everyday. Or even purchasing a cup of coffee for my drive might help...
I mean, let's be honest with each other, it's not as though I full on passed out, head back, drool everywhere, fell asleep. It was more like that awful bobbing of the head we all remember from those days of miserable history classes in college. And sure, okay, at the occasional red light I shut my eyes for a few seconds, but I never let my foot step off the break.
Okay maybe once I stepped off the break.
But I never hit anyone. Did I come close? I am not going to say yes. Do I always tell the truth? I am not going to say yes (again) but don't read into that too heavily.
And now that I am at work, I have an overwhelming urge to just shut my eyes and thunk my head down onto my ergonomic (or whatever you call it) wrist/keypad cushion. Seriously I think it would be really comfortable for a little nap.

The Reason I Slept on the Sofa Last Night
Somehow I ended up with the bedroom in our apartment that is a solid 10-15 degrees hotter than the other rooms. So when it's already in the 90s outside, you can find me curled up on the couch. (Still sweating, obv).
Reminds me of that week junior year of college I slept on a yoga mat on my bedroom floor. But I think that was because I just couldn't fall asleep in my bed for a week or something. Much less logical. Clearly.
