Star Wars vs. Cancer
This makes me so happy. I love Star Wars oh so very much and cancer is like THE WORST THING EVER so use the force and stand up to cancer, you guys!
Also, yeah. Bill Hader crushes this. And Emma Stone, I think we might be BFF soulmates.

Not At Comic Con (Again!)
So - remember last year when all of us who weren't at Comic Con commiserated with our #notatcomiccon tweets? Well, we're doing it again, you guys! (So far, we = me, but you know you want to.)
Here are some BREAKING NEWS STORIES I have so far, from DAY ONE of Not At Comic Con:
- I thought I lost a golf cart earlier.
- I did not lose a golf cart.
- I had three cups of coffee today.
- I'm really tan.
- MY FUCKING FACE IS PEELING.
- Coffee makes me poo.
- Molasses cookies are DELICIOUS.
- Most people do not enjoy molasses cookies.
- I am jealous of my nail polish. If that is possible.
Fascinating stuff, isn't it? And get excited, because we've got THREE MORE DAYS of this! I KNOW - this is just as fun as putting on a Stormtrooper helmet and getting freaky with an Ewok.

Have you ever been watching Star Wars and thought to yourself, "R2 would look great as a one-piece swimsuit!"? No? Me neither. But in case you have:

Let's Talk About How Fucking Rad Janelle Monae is
Janelle Monae is really fucking rad. Let's talk about it.
Okay so you may have seen on Twitter that earlier this week I was freaking out when I discovered that her song "Say You'll Go" from her BOMB new album samples Debussy's "Claire de Lune." Janelle Monae is awesome. I mean that is killer. Debussy is without question my favorite composer ("Reverie" is the number one most listened to song in my iTunes library) and Janelle Monae is brilliant.
The best part about her new album, The ArchAndroid is the liner notes. Every song lists inspiration. My personal favorite would be for the very first jam, "Overture II:"
Inspired by Princess Leia's cinnamon buns hairstyle, Tim Burton's "Blue Girl With Wine" and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concert No. 2
So Janelle Monae and I should be friends. Obviously. We both share a love of Star Wars, Tim Burton and Debussy. Well, shit.
And I leave you with her kickass video for "Tightrope."

Star Wars Subway aka Why Don't These Things Happen to Me?
Holy Shit.
I think it's safe to say that if I had been one of the lucky passengers on this subway car I would have done any or all of the following:
(A) Pissed my pants
(B) Cried
(C) Giggled maniacally
(D) Mouthed along with the words
(E) Shoved Princess Leia out of the way
Also worth noting - when I was little I used to think that Darth Vader told Leia she was part of a "Revel of Lions" (see: "You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor!).

So you want to know about midi-chlorians, hmm?
A co-worker just asked me if I was a "Star Wars person." My response? I laughed. I mean seriously. SERIOUSLY.
YES I AM A STAR WARS PERSON!
I then explained I associated the original trilogy with my childhood and that's why it sits next to my TV and why I watch those films whenever I feel homesick, specifically The Empire Strikes Back which is my favorite and how the score during the Asteroid field scene is maybe one of the best pieces of classical music used for a cinematic purpose ever. And also "never tell me the odds!"
And then I had to explain midi-chlorians to her for a while and then I started talking about Sith lords and at one point had to check my facts because as I said to this co-worker "I may be getting the science jumbled." And then I realized, yet again, I am a nerd.
May the Force be with you.

The Force is Strong With This One

There you have it, folks! Further proof why Obama is the man, and why he and I would get along quite well.
Damn, I want to have a light saber fight on the White House front lawn.

Au Revoir, Death Star
So it's my last day at work today. You know what that means, surely? It means I pulled out all the stops and put together one of the brightest outfits I could create.
Here's what I am working with:
-Electric green dress that is sort of like one of those potato sack/mumu dresses
-Crazy scarf with tassels that is pink, blue, yellow and white with some glittery stripes
-Neon orange Obama Watch
-Neon pink arm bracelet that Adubs brought me back from Argentina
-Neon orange nail polish on toes
-Gold and tan gladiator sandals
-Neon orange purse
-White Oakley frogskins (when I am outside, that is)
It feels good.
And this morning when I got into the elevator with four other people wearing the drabbest color suits, I couldn't have been more pleased. And I am psyched to move onto a world full of color, where maybe my affinity for neon won't stand out as much. And if it does... well, I'm used to it.
And now I actually have work to do (I KNOW! HOW DARE THEY MAKE ME WORK ON MY LAST DAY!) but there's no erasing the smile on my face.
And have I ever mentioned that the nickname for my office building is the Death Star... fitting for a Star Wars geek, no? So many times I've wanted to declare "This Death Star is fully armed and operational." Maybe that will be my final farewell? Nah, I'm thinking a "STAMOS OUT!" as I mime the tossing of the mic. Too much?

E3 Highlights
Besides getting some inside info on the new Avatar movie and companion game, I have to say my favorite part of E3 was simply walking around the floor demoing games. Of course the Nintendo booth was my favorite, and playing the new "Super Mario Bros Wii" game was a ton of fun--it harkens back to the day's of the old school NES, because you hold the Wiimote like an old controller and you're running through updated versions of familiar landscapes.
On a personal level I loved going to the Ubisoft press conference Monday night. Besides my internship at Us Weekly all those years ago, this was the most real-deal reporting experience I've had, and I loved every second of it. It was fun just chilling in the media lounge, looking around at all the other reporters, writers, bloggers, photographers, and knowing that for the first time, I too had credentials that put me in their peer group.
I also spent some time watching G4 shoot their live coverage, which was cool because I got to witness the legendary gamer Steve Wiebe play Donkey Kong. And I had a realization that I was the only chick in a sea of dudes. Alas, that sea of dudes was not an attractive sea.
E3 was a reminder that I am not even remotely nerdy though. Okay, remotely, but I am way on the fringe. I am hardly a gamer, I discovered, so I guess it's a good thing I was there as a "trend reporter" because when I attempted to play the new "Sonic & Mario Winter Olympics" game on the Wii I sucked. It's okay, I'm glad I'm not that much of a nerd. At least not like this guy. Excuse me, this stormtrooper:

I mean, seriously, dude? This isn't Comic Con...

TODAY'S NERD STATUS: HIGH
This could be the coolest website in the history of cool websites:
Star Wars Soundboard
In related news, you know how I want to name my first dog Chewbecca and call him Chewy? Well, our neighbors have a 3 month old Lhasa Apso puppy and it kind of looks like an ewok so I've decided that will be the breed of choice... LOOK AT THIS ONE:

Happy Star Wars Day!
Roommate Annie made my day this morning with a lil Twittering and a "may the 4th be with you!" That's right folks, it's Star Wars Day--the 4th day of every month where huge tools get to be huger tools and make bad puns. (I recommend logging onto Twitter and look at the search results when you type in Star Wars, it's actually kind of hilarious).
Rather than watch Star Wars today I am watching Star Trek. Yep, the new one. THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS I AM SEEING STAR TREK TONIGHT. BEFORE IT COMES TO THEATERS ON FRIDAY. AT A SPECIAL SCREENING. BECAUSE I AM SPECIAL (not really, I just have a friend who's totally hooked me up). You know what that means? A review tomorrow...

Why I look like a Jedi Knight today
No it's not my outfit. But I sort of bear resemblance to Obi Wan Kenobi today. The reason? The nuddle!
What's a nuddle? Well it's kind of like the Snuggie (but it came out before the snuggie, FYI, we've had one in our office for MONTHS) however it is not at all like the Snuggie in that it is actually, really nice. And high quality.
Check it out. THE NUDDLE!
Anyway, one of the ways you can wear it is essentially as though you were a Jedi Knight. And who doesn't NOT want to look like a Jedi?
