This & That

+I've started a little guest-blogging stint for Zap2it.com - check out my piece "Stamos on Stamos" (more entries forthcoming) for a little taste. Mayhaps my dream for the "Stamos vs. Stamos Reality Show" is closer to becoming a reality. The irony in all this - at least, it's ironic to me - is that I never was really a diehard fan of John Stamos. It's just my nickname. And I happen to share the name with someone quite famous, which has led to a lot of funny posturing and comparisons (from my end, obv).  Thanks to Twitter for confusing everyone...

+In the world of TV and TV-watching, I'm already feeling pretty burnt out. Last night I was going through my DVR and caught at least 6 shows I'm already sufficiently behind in. Thing is, I am totally okay with that. That's the thing about people who work in television - they don't actually have time to watch TV. As long as I watch all the pilots and sort of just stay looped in, I am totally okay with not devoting the hours upon hours required for watching everything. Especially when I'd rather spend my free time Monday night working on my writing.

+Speaking of writing, it's so fun being in a class again - granted, it makes me really long for college days, but it's pretty great walking around the UCLA campus and going to classes.  Even better is this writing class is going to force me to start and make a dent in a new project entirely - I'm looking forward to that.

+I'm still convinced we're having an earthquake every five minutes. Okay, not that often but I swear to God I feel earthquakes all the time.

+I kind of want to learn how to play golf. It was the one country club sport I never learned, mostly because I spent most of my time at the club in the pool or being forced to tennis lessons. I feel like now I might really enjoy golf. I'm going to look into that.

+Why is it that the month following Labor Day is always so packed and stressful? It's as though this is the real start to the year - the real time for resolutions and plans.  Not sure I'm sticking to any of my goals. I think I need to find a better balance for my weekends where I am a little more productive and a little less not-sober. Ha. Or I need to figure out how to survive on less sleep. I once heard that Bill Clinton trained himself to get only 5 hours of sleep a night and it made a world of difference. How can I do that?

Friday TV Roundup

Last night marked new episodes of many popular TV shows - The Vampire Diaires, Supernatural, Bones, Fringe, among others. I spent the night catching up on a lot of TV from the entire week. Some thoughts below:

1) This week's episode of Modern Family - well, yeah. I am Phil Dunphy. That whole thing about "next week" being the worst thing you could say to an early adopter - that's me. I so relate. Also - good work Apple, now I really want an iPad.

2) Loved this week's Cougartown so much I put a "keep" next to it on my DVR. I know, I know - you're thinking, really? Cougartown? And yes, I've been able to clear my living room just by announcing that's the next show I plan to watch on an average weeknight, but seriously, give it a shot. It consistently provides the laughs.

3) Justified is amazing. Timothy Olyphant just usurped Seth Meyers' spot on my list of "Celebrity I Most Want to Have Sex With." That is all.

4) Last but not least, Bones returned to our television screens last night. I enjoyed the episode, but it wasn't until the promo for next week's that I was reminded how excited I am to watch again. It's the much-anticipated 100th episode I saw a few weeks ago, but next week I'll watch it with my roommates - which will likely be a fun experience. I especially can't wait to see their reactions to certain scenes. I think this episode might rank as the show's best - even if my response crossed a wide spread of emotions, the final being shock.

5). More importantly, who would win in a showdown between Justified's Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens and Bones' Special Agent Seeley Booth?( My guess? Givens. It's the cowboy hat).

The weekend has started at my house, so I don't envision much TV watching to happen again until Sunday night.

Until then!

HAPPY MONDAY READERS!

HELLO. Today is MONDAY. IT IS THE DAY AFTER EASTER. DID YOU ENJOY EASTER? (for you non-Christians, that is.) I went to Church like the good Christian I am. (Then I went to the beach like the good tanorexic that I am.) That is, the good Christian I am on Christmas and Easter, which seem to be the only holidays I go to church these days. ANYWAY. IT'S MONDAY. AND I HAVE A THREE DAY WEEK. WHICH IS AWESOME. WHY JUST THREE DAYS? WHY SO MANY CAPITAL LETTERS TODAY? WHY DID I DRINK TOO MUCH WINE FRIDAY NIGHT WHICH THEN RENDERED ME INCAPABLE OF GOING OUT? All good questions. I am only going to answer one.

It is a three day week because I am going to Coachella this weekend and MY SISTER KO is coming out Wednesday for her first big Cali visit which is sure to make for a memorable weekend and many happy returns.

That's all I got for now. Too busy with work. Which means I am too busy being busy. Busy and important. Think rich mahogany.

Friday, at long last.

And finally, the first full work week of 2009 comes to end, and all I can say is, THANK GOD.

This has felt like an exceptionally long week, and I can’t tell if it’s because I seem to battling renewed existential crises, or because of the effort it takes settling back into a routine, or if in the New Year, the strange economic waves of change have finally reached us here in LA.

I think I started the week full of energy, positive outlook, enthusiasm, and at the moment am feeling frustrated and brain dead. Hence the sudden drop off in clever posts (if you haven’t noticed). All I can say is that I am wearing an outfit that is the work equivalent to sweatpants, but able to get away with it (think lycra), and that just feels fantastic. And I am wearing my cowboy boots today. So if anything goes awry, I’ve got a solid pair of shit kickers. Not that I plan on beating anyone up or anything, but on the MEAN STREETS of LOS ANGELES you never know.

Why Tuesday is my Monday

Ugh.

That is how I feel right now. Not well. Not well at all... Mondays are rough because I am already suffering a hangover (metaphorically speaking, usually) from what is always a jam-packed weekend. Well add an actual hangover to that and Monday is MISERABLE.

Exhibit A.
Earlier without realizing it I yawned in a way that was so desperate/pathetic that everyone sitting nearby just started laughing at me. Apparently I was also moaning in anguish.

Exhibit B.
Just a moment ago I was opening my Kombucha (it's a DELISH Chinese beverage that is good for you and stuff) and it exploded all over myself and my desk. Dude who sits next to me looked at me and said, "Just go home. Start over again tomorrow."

Ah if only it were that easy... thank goodness tomorrow is a fresh start though, and I will be looking and feeling quite the opposite of my blah existence today.

(insert post title here)

Why does it always seem to be that by the end of the week I am significantly busier with work than at the beginning of the week? It makes for very hectic Fridays...

Light posting today most likely... Unless I hit a stride this afternoon and there are lots ofs wonderful things for me to waste time with.

Try this:

God bless you crazy French people.

Slump Day

Ugh. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Of course what that means is I took my allergy medicine too close to my bedtime last night and woke up in a groggy haze of confusion. I attempted to tell my trainer this morning that my left was my right. He didn't buy it. He's a good trainer (PS it's a new one because that last dude was a jackass and this guy is a former football player who also loves Twilight and other YA books. I KNOW!)

I wish I could be like a bear and hibernate for the winter. That would be kind of awesome.

It feels like a slow news week, doesn't it? I mean, I don't know that I have as much to write about... maybe it's because my life is pretty boring when I do essentially the same boring things every day. That is why someone needs to pay me to quit my job and to write amusing anecdotes all the time. That's right, someone else needs to pay me to quit my job. It's great logic, don't you think?

"Hey at least it's Friday"

This corporate bullshit is just killing me. Seriously. This morning on the elevator ride up there must have been so many awkward conversations that began and ended with, "Friday." That's all you need to say--Friday, with a little smirk, mabye a sigh to express relief, and then make a comment about the weather. In fact, here's a rundown of my elevator ride this AM.

Me: (Awkward Sigh)
Man in Suit: "Hey at least it's Friday!"
Me: (Unnecessarily loud laughter followed by) "I KNOW!"
(Awkward pause)
Me: "Can you believe how warm it is?"
Suit: "It's incredible."
Me: "It's weird."
(Elevator doors open. THANK GOD THIS IS OVER).

At the moment I am obsessed with wandering aimlessly around the hall and literally just screaming Friday at people. It makes people excited/uncomfortable.

It's happening

Uh oh. I just changed my Facebook status from "Annie nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change" to "Annie loves gross corporate terms/jokes."

Shit. I am becoming one of them. One of those Facebook status updating assholes I can't stand.

OH GOD. Next, I am going to start commenting on other people's status updates. YOU GUYS THIS IS TERRIBLE.

I am addicted to the internet. FULL ON ADDICTION.

P.S. I fucking love saying stupid corporate shit. Like when it's Monday it's a whole lot of fun making a big deal about MONDAY. And then Tuesday--"Well, at least it's not Monday!" God I am cheesy.

Because Mondays Suck

I just had to watch this video three times before I figured out how to wrap up my headphones. And then I realized this is essentially the exact same thing as coiling a rope. And then I banged my head on the desk a few times.

Allergy Attack

Gooooood morning. Wish it was. Wish I wasn't mid-allergy attack at the moment (in case you thought my extreme levels of nerdiness couldn't increase any further: they can), but apparently it's now fall in LA, and much like the changing of seasons back East, fall always causes me to suffer incapacitating bouts of allergies. So much so that on the way to work this morning I contemplated turning around and calling in sick. (I was also half-asleep after OD-ing on Benadryl last night).

Of course someone just told me they heard it was going to be in the 80s today, which agains reminds me that LA's "season's" are fake. And entirely NOT dependable. That's okay though.

I was saying to a friend yesterday that there are moments when I look back on a day--the people I spend it with, the weather, the things I did--and I think I absolutely could die happy here...

OMG YOU GUYS

I cannot believe here it is 5:23 pm on Monday and I haven't even said hello. (HELLO).

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

How about a lil weekend update while I chomp on this delicious and almost perfectly white peach? I know what you are thinking. You are thinking OMG ANNIE STAMOS (made up last name FYI) you are eating a peach? You spend your coveted money on peaches? NO I DON'T. But my dad, Jon Stamos does. And that's right folks... in addition to a weekend of free meals I lucked out with one helluva grocery shopping trip to the local Pavillions, courtesy Dad.

Other weekend highlights include the 30 mile bike ride I went on Saturday. Yes, 30 miles. It was completely uninentional (hence the severe and awkward sunburned tan lines on my right shoulder) but the perfect sunny LA day to ride from Santa Monica to Hermosa, have some lunch on the pier, then ride bike. And, I am totally hooked on bike riding. Which is awesome because I am actually a MISERABLE bike rider (this dates back to a scarring experience when I went to summer camp in Mexico and was forced to go on crazy bike rides sans helmet and on these very steep narrow roads with large trucks passing us and I just remember wanting to close my eyes and cry the whole time) but seriously YOU GUYS bike riding was AWESOME and I am a convert.

I also did a long rollerblade trip yesterday (so Cali, ew) but not as intense though because rollerblading 30 miles would be far less enjoyable. I think I still did 8 miles (need to brag, okay?) and really just had to get a glimpse of the Venice Sunday 5 pm drum circle (so weird).

Yeah so this weekend was all about OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES which was awesome and LA is really the perfect place for such fun. Although now I am feeling a bit out of sorts and like maybe there were things I didn't do that maybe I need to do, but let's be honest--that's not true.

What else... Oh the Emmys... yeah well... I watched them. Thought the fashion choices were lackluster, the jokes stale, and overall a snoozefest. However I am SUCH a sucker for those award shows and regrettably I must say I watched the entire thing. ENTIRE THING. Blech. There are 3 hours of my life I will never get back. I sort of think since I've moved out here and have been exposed to the Hollywood scene I am growing increasingly adverse to such self-congratulatory events. (But don't mind me while I self-congratulate any second I get.)

That's all she wrote folks... and for REAL I promise to kick it into a higher gear this week. Ok?

stupid blogger

I had just written some really stupid post about some cereal and then stupid blogger told me I couldn't post it and then I was going to rewrite it and then I decided not to because I realized it wasn't all that interesting so you are getting some of this drivel instead. I can't decide what's worse: Monday or Wednesday. It's also highly pathetic how much I talk about the miserable days of the week.
